Tonight at the Frequency, the cellist Sebastiaan de Rode will play pieces from the classical repertoire for solo cello. Pieces from all over Europe that show the typical character of the country the composers originates from; furious Spanish flamenco by Cassado, dark Hungarian stories by Kodaly and mysterious fairytales by the Finnish composer Sibelius.

Besides playing this fantastic solo repertoire, Sebastiaan is playing with several professional orchestras but also played solo with orchestras, worked with theatre groups and plays a lot of chamber music with various ensembles.

In 2008 he started the "NMF cello quartet", which got it's name from the National Music Instrument Foundation. Al members from the quartet play on a fantastic cellos, put at their disposal by this instrument Foundation. The ensemble gained a large repertoire with music specially written for the combination of four cellos and all kind of arrangements from famous and un known pieces. An other ensemble Sebastiaan is playing with is the Lagos Ensemble. This ensemble originated from the Lagos String quartet. The musicians wanted to widen their repertoire by working together with other musicians, such as singers and pianists.

Sebastiaan started his musical career at the age of eleven. After his high school he went to Amsterdam, the Netherlands, to continue his musical education at the Sweelinck Conservatorium. He went to Berlin, Germany to finish his education and specialized on chamber music. Sebastiaan's way of playing was greatly influenced by numerous master classes and courses by famous chamber musicians such as members from the Alban Berg Quartet, the Brodsky Quartet, the Amadeus Quartet, the Guarneri Quartet and the Cleveland Quartet but also by international renown musicians as Nathaniël Rosen, Mark Lubotsky, Janos Starker, Jerome Lowenthal (Julliard School of Music, NY) and David Geringas.
