Rust Belt Sermon is a Madison, Wisconsin-based D.I.Y. band of the post-punk, emo-punk, indie-rock, post-metal, art-metal, hardcore genres. The band features former members of None Left Standing, Droids Attack Windell Greene, and The Mercy Chord. Their first recording “Decay Encased in Photography” EP, available in iTunes Plus format on iTunes and at live performances, was released in 2006. The A/V Club (The Onion Tabloid) describes Rust Belt Sermon as “…an impressive blitzkrieg of political emo-punk…” and the sound as “jangled. …fractured guitar shrapnel, colliding well with dissonant chords…”. The Isthmus publication stated on January 16, 2009 “Rust Belt Sermon’s just begun recording its first full-length album…”. No announcement has been made on the release date. In an interview with The Wisconsin State Journal Vocalist/Guitarist Shawn Bass stated “My influences are: my band mates are actually my biggest influences. They push me to try different things more than listening to music. That being said, many bands have had some effect on my playing: Fugazi, Stephen Reich, Mineral, Appleseed Cast, Mastodon, Stop It!, Damien Rice, A Day in Black and White, Robby Krieger, Afghan Whigs, etc”. Bands of influence and similar style include Stop It!, Life at These Speeds, Year of No Light, Baroness, Isis, At The Drive-In, Neurosis, Pelican, Red Sparowes, Russian Circles and These Arms Are Snakes.
